Education is the lighting of a fire”-W.B.YEATS . Enlightenment as its main aim NEMA inaugurated its Literary and philosophical forum on 29th May 2005 at the Westborough public library. Despite the fun and Frolic, parties and traveling that memorial weekend brings along, children and their parents participated enthusiastically in the inaugural function. NEMA’s Literary and philosophical forum is not only a Malayalam school that just has teaching Malayalam to children as its goal, it aims at making every Malayalee proud of his strong literary and cultural roots and make him aware of the several promises that their heritage makes.

The simple program began with an invocation, taking Lord’s blessing in turning this thoughtful project into a worthwhile and fulfilling experience. Dr. Omprakash Pillai, the President of NEMA with his extensive experience and abundant knowledge was the apt person to inaugurate the forum. Dr. Pillai in his address to the gathering expressed his joy in realizing the dream of many Malayalees in being able to celebrate the abundance of their Mother tongue Malayalam. He added that he envisioned a day when the whole world would stand up and applaud the variety and grandeur that Malayalam Literature has brought along for centuries together.

Dr. Pillai then introduced the lead Malayalam teacher Ms. Yasmin Aminuddin who had most genuinely expressed her willingness to be an important part of this dream project. The audience gave her an ovation and acknowledged unanimously that Ms. Yasmin who is known for her innovative ideas and intelligent write-up is the best Malayalam teacher one could have. Ms Aminuddin assured everyone present that she would do what is in her best capacity to make Malayalam intelligible to anyone interested. Dr. Pillai and Ms Aminuddin with their inspirational words not only encouraged the children but also some adults present  in taking up Malayalam classes and be proficient in their Mother tongue.

Ms. Aminuddin started the Malayalam class with the first letter on a board and every child present was given an opportunity to write on board the letter that was taught. Smiles on every face, the children seemed exuberant in being fortunate to take one step ahead of every other child that was not around. Classes were then scheduled for every last Saturday of the month and it was planned to include fun activities for the children, encouraging them to keep up their good work.

Ideas and suggestions were encouraged from everyone present and many constructive projects were planned for the Literary and philosophical forum. With the inauguration of the Literacy forum, NEMA established itself as an organization solely interested in taking the community to a raised platform and also giving every New England Malayalee a stable and secure place to go for every need of his.
